London 1918, the Armistice and Gallantry research

Search the historical London street directory, and London pub history site including early street addresses in London through the Victorian pub history of London. This search engine is not brilliant, try address searches in the main google search to get better results. Searches on people names do appear to work, I think. Let me know!

    WILLIAMS, Capt. Noel Victor M.C.

    Medal & Mortality index

The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August 1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.

WILLIAMS, Capt. Noel Victor ... ... ... 62/Machine Gun Corps

VAULX VRADCOORT, 24th to 31st August, 1918. When temporarily in command of his company he was called upon, at short notice, to draw up a plan of action for launching his company to an attack. He carried out his task with conspicuous ability, and after the objective had been gained, he made a personal reconnaissance of the guns, under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, co-ordinating their dispositions so as to meet the tactical requirements of the situation. His courage and energy set a splendid example to all ranks.
